Antitrust service sees amicable deal with metals producers wrong
ST. PETERSBURG, Jun 16 (PRIME) -- The Federal Antimonopoly Service would not strike amicable deals with hot-rolled metals producers because of the current high prices, the service’s head Maxim Shaskolsky told PRIME on Friday.
“Regarding the metals, we are monitoring the situation. As you know, our suits against the companies are going on. We have not reached any amicable deal yet,” he said during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
“We are in negotiations so that they take measures to reduce the prices.”
The service said in February 2022 that steelmakers Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK), Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK), and Severstal violated the antimonopoly legislation by holding monopolistically high prices for hot-rolled metals since January 2021, and obliged the companies to reduce prices.
The companies disagreed with the service’s assessment of the situation and challenged the rulings in courts.
